What is curtailment?
Curtailment involves temporarily curtailing the generation of a solar installation. Your loss of production is nothing compared to the costs you can save or the income you can generate with curtailment. What we are doing with curtailment is precisely balancing the supply and demand of energy. And that's where the profit is. With a Day-Ahead contract, where the imbalance costs are curtailed, this will generate cost savings for you. Do you have an imbalance contract? Then curtailment can generate revenue.
The example below shows the difference in price between a Day-Ahead contract with curtailment and an Imbalance contract with curtailment.
Explanation of calculation
(Nomination) import: The cost of the power you bring in from the grid
(Nomination) export: The cost of the power you feed back to the grid.
Imbalance costs: The cost you incur for the imbalance
Up/down: The cost you pay to the energy supplier. This includes markup and markdown and buying out the imbalance risk.
