SARO (Samen Ambitieus Rotterdams Onderwijs) is a Rotterdam-based educational foundation that provides primary and secondary education for children aged 0 to 18. The foundation was established on January 1, 2024, through a merger between Kind en Onderwijs Rotterdam (29 elementary schools) and LMC Voortgezet Onderwijs (23 secondary schools) and, with 52 schools and more than 800 employees, manages one of Rotterdam’s larger educational portfolios.
With schools located throughout the city, from Hoek van Holland to Kralingen, SARO manages an extensive real estate portfolio. Solar panels have been installed at several locations as part of a broader sustainability initiative: using school rooftops to generate clean energy and structurally reduce energy costs.

An educational foundation like SARO does not have its own technical department to manage solar energy systems. Yet, as a board, you want the installations on your school roofs to perform well year after year: both for savings on the energy bill and for the reliability of the systems. In the event of malfunctions or outages, you want prompt assistance without having to build up internal expertise.
At the same time, managing multiple dispersed school locations presents specific challenges: installations vary in age and size, and failure patterns differ by location and season.
Covolt takes full responsibility for the technical management of six schools with solar power systems, allowing SARO to focus on its core mission:

The clean energy generated by the systems directly reduces the foundation’s energy bills, freeing up funds that are reinvested in education itself.
