Junior Data Analyst, Trading
From data to a trading edge in real time.
About Covolt
Smart energy deserves smart people.
Covolt is a fast-growing, technology-driven player in the energy market, operating at the intersection of data, algorithmic decision-making, and real-time trading.
We develop and operate systems that translate energy and market data streams into immediate trading decisions and optimizations within the short-term power markets, including Day Ahead,
Intraday and ancillary services such as FCR and aFRR. In this environment, everything revolves around speed, accuracy, and data-driven edge computing.
Intraday price movements, day-ahead price signals, imbalance markets, and
Flexibility and reserve markets together form the foundation of our strategies. Covolt builds technology that converts these signals into automated trading actions, focusing on returns, risk, and scalability for our clients.
Within multidisciplinary teams, data analysts, data scientists, and trading specialists work together to develop systematic strategies and market models that create structural value in dynamic energy and commodity markets.
We are looking for a Junior Data Analyst who will directly contribute to the development, testing, and optimization of data-driven strategies across the entire short-term market.
About the Junior Trading Data Analyst Role
Data that drives decisions, not just describes them
Under the guidance of more experienced data analysts and data scientists, the Junior Data Analyst (Trading) is responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of trading strategies within the short-term power markets (Day Ahead, Intraday, and ancillary services such as FCR and aFRR).
You will build and refine data-driven signals, pricing logic, and execution models that directly contribute to trading performance across multiple markets and time horizons.
You translate market data, order flow, and external data streams into actionable trading signals and systematic strategies, with a focus on P&L, risk, and execution efficiency.
You identify market inefficiencies in day-ahead optimization, intraday volatility, and balancing and reserve markets, and translate these into a repeatable, scalable trading edge.
Example of a Situation
From Analysis to Live Trading Impact
As part of your daily analysis of short-term market data, you will evaluate various trading strategies and related performance metrics, such as PnL, forecast accuracy, and execution quality.
You’ll notice that a specific trading model underperforms in certain time frames and market conditions, while similar conditions in the intraday, day-ahead, and balancing markets actually yield strong results. In the data, you’ll discover subtle patterns in price volatility, forecast errors, and order flow that aren’t fully accounted for in the current signal logic.
Instead of simply reporting this, you actively seek out the cause. You analyze historical data across multiple markets (Day Ahead, Intraday, and FCR/aFRR), test hypotheses, and compare different market regimes to understand where the inefficiency arises.
You conclude that part of the signal does not take sufficient account of differences in market structure and timing, resulting in structurally suboptimal positioning and missed trading opportunities.
You will develop this finding into an improved signal concept and validate it through backtesting. You will then translate your insights into a concrete proposal for the development team: an adjusted signal parameterization and improved execution timing across multiple markets.
The improvement leads to a noticeable optimization in performance and is incorporated into live strategies in the intraday, day-ahead, and balancing markets.

This challenge is a good fit if you have the following qualities
